Letter to the Editor: Concerns with Transition House
Mr. Editor,
I wish to bring to your attention our building called Transition House on Chapel street. Our only meeting was three years ago. We left under the impression that a “few hours a day” was their plan to shelter homeless and addicted people. Quickly enough their evergrowing “clientèle” trespassed on our properties shooting drugs and never stopped loitering ever since. Today our letters, few in number, reflect a large radius of influence: a few thousands of people are affected.
Facts. This winter some homeowners had $70,000.00 worth of damages. Cameras’ PC sticks recorded vandalism, acts of indecency. Our Banks cut off their window service after regular hours. Boarded up windows, vehicles parked at the owner’s risk are taking over our daily scenery. We miss walking safely and for this reason we self impose a curfew.
If Town and County are not providing full time adapted mental health services, and proper lodging, our Taxpayers should not be left with it.
Cobourg’s constituency and County need to repurpose Transition House. We need to reclaim our legitimate rights to do business, living safely and freely again.
