A fifth person has been charged in relation to an ongoing attempted murder investigation in Eldon Township.
On April 12, 2022, OPP officers responded to a disturbance call involving a firearm on a rural property where they located a person with life-threatening injuries. A search warrant was executed at the property which resulted in a large amount of evidence being recovered.
On January 23, 2023, the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Crime Unit, with the assistance of the OPP Central Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and the Physical Surveillance Unit (PSU) arrested and charged a fifth person:
Peter HABAYBEH, 48 years of age, of Ajax has been charged contrary to the Criminal Code with:
· Attempt to commit Murder using a firearm – Section 239(1)(a.1)
· Kidnapping with a Firearm – Section 279(1.1)(a.1)
· Discharge Firearm With Intent – Section 244(1)
· Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – Section 91(1)
· Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – Section 91(1)
· Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – Section 91(1)
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on January 24, 2023.
The investigation remains ongoing with members of the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Crime Unit, Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) and Forensic Identification Services (FIS), under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB).
