Cobourg Police – Fail to Stop (No Name Released)

A Cobourg man has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle after failing to remain at the scene.

On Sunday, November 20, 2022, police responded to two separate motor vehicle collisions in the north end of Cobourg.

The driver caused extensive property damage before exiting the vehicle and fleeing on foot. Police learned that the car involved in the collisions was a stolen vehicle.

As a result of police investigation, on Thursday, November 24, 2022, a 30-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with the following offences:

1) Theft of Motor Vehicle contrary to section 333.1(1) of the Criminal Code

2) Failure to Stop After Accident contrary to section 320.16(1) of the Criminal Code

3) Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code

4) Fail to Comply with Probation contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code

The accused was held in custody pending a show cause hearing and remanded into custody.
