Quinte West OPP – Theft and Dangerous Driving Investigation

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested two people in relation to a theft and dangerous driving incident.

On Wednesday February 23, 2022, Quinte West OPP responded to a call for service at a convenience store on Dundas Street West in Trenton. It was reported that a female suspect left the store without paying for some merchandise. A witness followed the suspect into the parking lot where the female entered a pickup truck driven by a male. The witness was then allegedly struck by the pickup truck as it fled the scene, causing significant injuries.

Following an investigation into the incident, and with the assistance of the public, Quinte West OPP identified the two individuals involved in the incident and sought warrants for their arrest.

On March 16, 2022, the male accused attended the Quinte West Detachment and was arrested. On March 18, 2022, the female accused was arrested for theft, in addition to the outstanding arrest warrant, after police responded to a shoplifting incident at a business on 2nd Dug Hill Road in Trenton.

Mathew GARDINER, 28 years old and Ashley FLETCHER, 30 years old, both from Quinte West ha ve been charged with the following:

Additionally, Fletcher has been charged with two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking, as well as theft under $5000.

Both accused were released on undertakings and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on April 14, 2022
