Durham Police – Cause Released of Fatal Oshawa Fire

Fatal Fire Investigation in Oshawa

 

The DRPS Homicide Unit has concluded the investigation into the fatal fire which occurred on Olive Avenue in Oshawa on March 22, 2021.

 

Based on the evidence collected, investigators believe the fire was started by a child under the age of 12.  Based on the totality of the circumstances and in accordance with legislation, no charges will be laid in relation to this incident. Investigators worked in conjunction with the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal and Oshawa Fire Services to complete a thorough investigation.

 

Durham Regional Police is not seeking additional evidence in relation to this incident.

 

 

UPDATE #2 SENT ON MARCH 31, 2021

Fatal Fire Investigation in Oshawa

 

The Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identities of the four victims from the house fire which occurred on Olive Avenue in Oshawa on March 22, 2021.

 

The deceased have been identified as Terrence POTTIE, age 66; Paul LEBLANC, age 57; Cristian DUGUAY-STERLING, age 11 and his sibling Lucas DUGUAY-STERLING, age 9 of Olive Avenue in Oshawa.

 

This remains an ongoing investigation.
