The driver of a transport and his dog were rescued when the big rig went off the road on Highway 401 on Friday, December 10, 2021.
At approximately 9:30 p.m. emergency services were dispatched to a transport truck in the ditch in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 approximately two kilometres east of County Road 45 east of Cobourg.
The transport went into the ditch and it appears because of the soft ground, the transport rolled on its side.
When crews arrived on scene, the driver of the transport and his dog were inside the cab and couldn’t get out.
With paramedics standing by members of the Cobourg Fire Department and Alnwick/Haldimand Township Fire Department used rescue equipment to take out the front window of the cab.
A short time later both man and his best friend were freed.
The driver was checked over by paramedics, but wasn’t injured in the collision.
The transport was left in the ditch and was removed on Saturday,
