At 2:25 p.m. on March 16, 2021 Port Hope Police were called to Ganaraska Trail Public School as some children who had been outside for physical education reports seeing a man who was behaving in a way that frightened them. One student said the man may have had a weapon, although none was seen by the teacher.
The man was not close to the students and did not come in contact with them in any way. Port Hope Police quickly asked the school to institute a lockdown.
A similar lockdown was initiated at Port Hope High School and Dr. M.S. Hawkins Senior Public School for precautionary reasons.
The matter was resolved in approximately 30-minutes. Port Hope Police identified a person of interest, but did not locate a weapon.
Port Hope Police thanks the community for their support and patience from the parents and children involved.
