(CRAMAHE TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Thursday February 25, 2021, at approximately 9:40 pm, members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), were alerted by concerned citizens regarding a silver coloured four door sedan that was parked in the live lane on Durham Street North in the town of Colborne. The vehicle was found to be locked and not running with an individual who appeared to be asleep sitting behind the steering wheel.
Officers arrived at the location and upon their interaction with the driver, it became apparent the individual was displaying signs of impairment. The driver was arrested for impaired operation then transported to Cobourg where a Drug Recognition Evaluation (DRE) was completed by a member of the Cobourg Police Service.
As a result of the investigation Adam BELL (age 39) of Brighton Ontario, has been charged with:
· Operation while impaired – drugs
· Operation while impaired – blood drug concentration
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a date in April 2021.
Police continue to rely on members of the public to report suspected impaired drivers. Many of these drivers are caught because of concerned citizens being conscious of irregular or erratic driving behaviours that continue to put other motorists at risk.
The Northumberland County OPP reminds motorists that any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.
