Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) assisted with the recovery of three stolen vehicles on Sunday February 7, 2021.
Shortly after 10:00 pm a member from the York Regional Police Service was travelling eastbound on Highway 401 following a transport truck that was believed to have high-end stolen vehicles within the trailer and requested assistance with pulling it over.
Officers set up eastbound along highway 401 and stopped the vehicle at the Burnham Street off-ramp. The driver was then directed to the carpool lot located on County Road 45 just north of Cobourg. Two Toyota Highlanders and a Lexus RX5 were located within the trailer. All three vehicles had recently been reported stolen from the York and Peel region.
The vehicles were removed from the trailer and transported back to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) where the York Region Police Service will continue to investigate.
The Northumberland OPP receive notifications on a regular basis of high-end vehicles that have been stolen out the GTA. These vehicles are either being driven or transported in enclosed trailers to Montreal along the Highway 401 corridor.
