Quinte West OPP – Tractor Trailer Damaged After Striking Bridge
The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a collision involving a commercial vehicle and a train bridge in Quinte West.
On February 4, 2021, at approximately 9:00 a.m., Quinte West OPP was notified by the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) that they stopped a transport truck with heavy damage to its trai ler. Police investigation revealed that the tractor trailer attempted to drive under the train bridge on 2nd Dug Hill Road, causing heavy damage to the top of the trailer. Quinte West OPP were not notified by the driver at the time of the collision. Upon being contacted by MTO, Quinte West OPP notified the Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) who inspected the bridge and cleared it as safe.
The bridge has a low clearance height of 3.7 meters (12 feet). Transport trucks are prohibited from using 2ND Dug Hill Road, between the north entrance of Walmart on 2ND Dug Hill Road and Telephone Road in Quinte West.
The investigation is continuing at this time and charges are expected to be laid.
