Police attended and took the property (knapsack) back to the police station to try and identify its owner.
Inside the knapsack police discovered a sawed-off .22 calibre rifle along with ammunition and identification of what police believed to be the owner.
“We realized after that, it could be a public safety issue and spent several hours searching for the individual.”
Police ended up finding the individual at a residence where he was arrested and taken into custody. A taser and small amount of crystal methamphetamine was also discovered in the immediate area of the individual.
A 43-year-old suspect of no fixed address is charged with a drug offence and also several firearms charges in relation to the rifle and taser.
“It was definitely a concern to find this individual immediately. The firearm was easily concealable. There is no other reason to have a rifle like that other than to commit criminal activity.”
