Durham Police – Car Rally Cancelled, Multiple Drivers Still Facing Charges

Despite the cancellation of an organized car rally in Pickering on Sunday, West Division and Traffic Services officers were still busy dealing with vehicles that came into the area anyway.

The organizers of a car rally that was to take place on Sunday, October 11, 2020, had cancelled the event in advance; however, officers continued to patrol the area around Kingston Road and Brock Road in Pickering that afternoon and evening. Three vehicles were impounded for illegal modifications and two drivers were charged with Stunt Racing. A total of 50 Provincial Offence Notices were issued for various traffic violations, as well.

Later that evening, around 10 p.m., GO Transit security called police to the Pickering GO parking garage. Vehicles were found racing inside. Police blocked off the exits and 19 people were charged with trespassing. Of note, about half of those in attendance were not from Durham Region.

Police would like to thank the organizers for canceling the event, and also remind motoring enthusiasts to be aware that the dangerous operation of motor vehicles will not be tolerated.
DRPS would also like to thank the OPP, York Regional Police, Toronto Police and members of the Project E.R.A.S.E. enforcement team for their assistance.
