On Monday September 28, 2020, at approximately 7:30 pm, members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an address on County Road 24 for a report of an assault involving a weapon. Minutes later police received another 911 call from a nearby residence reporting that an individual armed with a firearm had entered their home and threatened to cause harm. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.
Officers from the Northumberland OPP detachment were assisted by members from the Peterborough detachment of the OPP, the Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), and Canine Unit.
Shortly after 8:00 pm the suspect returned to the location and was arrested without incident.
The accused who is a 23-year-old resident of Alnwick-Haldimand Township has been charged with:
· Assault with a weapon
· Imitation firearm – use while committing offence
· Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose
· Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm (two counts)
· Break, enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence
· Forcible confinement
The accused whose name will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victims, was held for bail hearing on September 29, 2020.
