Ed’s House 10th Annual Hike for Hospice Goes Virtual
Due to COVID-19, the Ed’s House 10th annual Hike for Hospice, held by Community Care Northumberland, is going virtual this year. This event, which encourages participants to complete the hike whenever, wherever and however, will aim to raise necessary funds for the organization’s Hospice Services program while promoting physical distancing.
This year’s hike invites participants to register online for free as an individual or a team, collect pledges and find creative ways to complete the hike, such as walking, hiking, running or biking a distance of their choosing, on or before Saturday, August 22nd. On August 22nd, CCN staff will be at Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre at 1301 Ontario Street in Hamilton Township from 10:30 to 1:30 for hike participants to drop off cash and cheque pledges, have a closer look at the exterior of Ed’s House and ask questions about the new centre, and collect an Ed’s House cookie courtesy of Roda’s Kitchen.

Northumberland’s Hospice Palliative Care Team are extraordinary. From diagnosis to end of life, team members do everything possible to help their clients have a gentle journey, at the same time supporting loved ones, friends and caregivers. It’s why I am more than happy to Hike for Hospice every year, to help raise the funds needed to support these valuable services.”
“Hike for Hospice brings people together in our community to remember and honour loved ones,” explains Jen Calver, Director of Hospice Services for Community Care Northumberland. “It is a noncompetitive community event to support and raise awareness of hospice services where individuals and their loved ones receive consistent support and comfort care in their hospice journey.”
The 2019 Hike for Hospice raised a total of $15 754.88 for Community Care Northumberland’s HospicemServices program, which offers a range of services for hospice clients from early family engagement and beyond, including support for caregivers, health system navigation, education and grief and bereavement support. Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre, opening in the fall of 2020, will offer these services in addition to resident hospice care.
