(CRAMAHE TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Saturday June 27, 2020, at approximately 8:15 pm, members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Cramahe Fire Department and Northumberland Paramedics responded to a head on collision between a motorcycle and passenger van at the intersection of Park Street East and Burnham Street in the town of Colborne.
A silver Dodge passenger van was turning left off Burnham Street to proceed west on Park Street East when it collided with a grey Yamaha motorcycle travelling eastbound on Park Street East.
Both riders of the motorcycle were transported to a local area hospital to be treated for injuries sustained as a result of the collision. One of the riders was later transported to a hospital in Toronto for what are being described as serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The occupants of the passenger van did not sustain any injuries.
The driver of the passenger van has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with careless driving.
Unfortunately, this collision in Northumberland OPP’s area is the latest reminder that even safe motorcyclists are vulnerable when sharing the road with other vehicles and that motor vehicle drivers play an important role in motorcycle safety.
During the riding season, motor vehicle drivers are reminded to keep a watchful eye out for motorcycles and ensure they are doing frequent blind spot checks.
