Northumberland OPP – Trent Hills Resident Charged with Impaired

On Friday May 29, 2020 shortly after 11:30 am members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on County Road 30 between Myers Island Road and 5th Line West, after receiving a report from a concerned citizen regarding a possible impaired driver.

The driver of a white Dodge pick-up truck towing an enclosed black trailer was observed consuming what appeared to be alcohol by a fellow motorist. The vehicle was additionally described as being unable to maintain travelling in a marked lane.

The described pick-up truck was located by police travelling north bound on County Road 30 just south of the town of Campbellford. Officers detected a strong odour of alcohol upon speaking to the driver and a roadside Approved Screening Device (ASD) was administered resulting in a “fail”. The driver was arrested and transported back to the OPP detachment in Campbellford for further testing.

Peter BROWN (age 56) of Warkworth, Ontario has been charged with:

· Operation while Impaired – Blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
· Have care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available
· Having care and control of a vehicle with unsealed container of liquor

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on August 12, 2020.

The Northumberland OPP reminds motorists that any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements. Highway safety is a shared responsibility.
