Northumberland United Way Accepts Applications for ECSF Funding

United Way Northumberland is now accepting applications for funding under the Emergency Community Support Fund, set up to provide financial support to charities and other qualified donees adapting front-line services to support vulnerable Canadians during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This fund was announced by the Federal government and is administered in collaboration with United Way Centraide Canada, Community Foundations of Canada and the Canadian Red Cross.
“Canadian charities and not-for-profits are always there to help you in your time of need. But the COVID-19 pandemic is bringing real challenges to these important organizations,” The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, was quoted in the press release.
“With today’s announcement, the Government of Canada will be there for them, so they can continue to be there for Canadians.”
Locally, United Way is proud to support the investment of $228,218 into the local community. Applications to share in the fund will be accepted through June 19, and a high volume of requests is anticipated.
Northumberland United Way executive director Bobbie Dawson said the partnership acknowledges the unique position of United Way organizations to respond to the most acute needs.
“Here in Northumberland County, we will work together with community partners who are closest to those most vulnerable to rapidly respond to the needs in our community. This will ensure that the Emergency Community Support Funding will go to those organizations most directly affected by COVID-19,” Dawson said.
