Everything has to come to an end and with that the Hamilton Township Fire Department is ending their Spirit Nights for Essential Workers with a finale of all the apparatus parading together throughout the Township.

Starting at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 all three stations of Hamilton Township Fire Department will be starting at the Baltimore Rec Centre with approximately 16 firetrucks in, “one big display of respect,” said Chief Kelly Serson.

Spirit Nights started approximately four weeks ago by the firefighters that wanted to thank citizens for adhering to the COVID-19 rules, but also to pay tribute to essential workers including, grocery clerks, truck drivers, servers in restaurants and stores.

“This happened by accident getting requests from the community to celebrate some birthdays and it grew into what we were doing.”

For the last several weeks, the three stations located in Baltimore, Harwood and Bewdley would take their apparatus into the community on Wednesday evenings.

On Wednesday, May 20, 2020 all the apparatus will be taken throughout the areas together.

“It will be one massive and colossal parade through all of the communities in the Township.”

“Being out there, seeing the people that came out to show their respect and to honour the front line workers and all the people that are doing what they are doing through these difficult times really was touching.”

“It was very emotional and very special.”

Serson adds firefighters are often thanked for the job they do, “but in this time – it’s everybody.” “It’s not just the firefighters. Everybody deserves some form of display of respect. It’s very difficult for everybody that’s involved with what’s going on in our country and in the world.”
