With assistance from Green Wood Coalition, the emergency shelter at Cobourg Collegiate Institute is staying open in the day to for a group of the most vulnerable individuals they serve.
On Friday, March 20, 2020 supported by the Government of Ontario in partnership with the Kawartha Pine Ride District School Board (KPRDSB), Northumberland County and Transition House, Cobourg Collegiate Institute’s cafeteria was opened for the most vulnerable in the community to act as a safe place to sleep, keeping in mind the social distancing aspect of two metres.
Since Wednesday, March 25, 2020, some of the most vulnerable people have been allowed to stay at CCI during the day because of reasons such as health and mobility.
The arrangement with Green Wood Coalition is to keep the shelter operational for these few individuals during the day while cleaning and administrative work is undertaken.
Northumberland County advises it is not a drop-in centre during those hours.
