The Municipality of Port Hope has issued a press release reporting on its February 4 council meeting, with a summary of key items discussed.
Council members made a plaque presentation to Dr. Anthony Miller, a Port Hope resident recently named a Member of the Order of Canada for his contributions to the field of cancer epidemiology, and for his work to advance cancer-control policies and practices in Canada.
Though Port Hope has been without a chief administrative officer for some time, Mayor Bob Sanderson recently announced the intention to bring one on board. A council resolution has appointed Sanderson, Deputy Mayor Les Andrews and Councillor Laurie Carr to form a subcommittee to act on council’s behalf in the recruitment-and-selection process to fill this position.
Council also authorized the subcommittee to work with the Human Resources Manager to finalize the job description, select the executive-search firm, participate in the interview process and select candidates for the final interview – which will include all members of council.
A Traffic and Parking Bylaw amendment was passed to effect some changes in certain areas.
Two accessible parking spaces will be added at the Lions Club Recreation Centre at 29 Thomas St.
Two accessible parking spaces will be added at the same address, at the entrance to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 30.
A restriction of parking at the Town Hall parking lot to Farmers’ Market vendors only will be in effect on Farmers’ Market days from the first Saturday in May to the last Saturday in October, the restriction to run from 6 a.m. To 2 p.m.
Finally, a housekeeping amendment was to reflect the name change of the municipally owned facilities, the Community Hub and Fire Station 3.
Council referred the amendment to the Site Alteration and Fill Bylaw back to staff for further consultation with the agricultural community.
As the recommended amendment was not authorized, current provisions of the bylaw, No. 47/2012, remain in effect.
Council did authorize the execution of a Site Plan Agreement Amendment for 224 Ward St. (Empire Crossing Retirement Community Inc.) to permit the development of the Phase 2 addition. Located at the north end of the property, this 5,812-sq.-m. project will add 58 units.
