City of Kawartha Lakes OPP – Weekend Impaired Arrests

Officers from the City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL) detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested the following individuals over the weekend for impaired driving offences.

On Friday afternoon, January 31, 2020 officers were conducting a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) check on Kawartha Lakes Road 41, north of the hamlet of Bexley. Shortly after 3:30 pm an ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) approached the check. An investigation was initiated and the driver, 66 year old Michael Hayden of Kirkfield was subsequently arrested and charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus) contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on March 12, 2020.

On Friday January 31, 2020 at approximately 5:45pm officers responded to a single vehicle collision on Kawartha Lakes Road 8, west of Glenarm. Following an investigation, the driver, 32 year old James Stapley of Woodville was arrested and charged with Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus) contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on March 5, 2020.

On Saturday February 1, 2020 at approximately 1am officers responded to a traffic complaint on Highway 35 north of Cameron. Following an investigation, the driver, 28 year old John Sweet of Deseronto was a r rested and charged with Fail or Refuse to Comply with Demand contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on March 12, 2020.
