Durham Police – Oshawa Male Charged after Assaulting Paramedic

A 23-year-old Oshawa man was charged after assaulting a paramedic on Saturday night.

On Saturday, January 4, 2020, at approximately 9:45 p.m., members of Central East responded for a distraught male at a residential address on Wilson Road South in Oshawa.

The suspect was apprehended under the Mental Health Act after ingesting unknown drugs. The suspect was violent and verbally aggressive towards the officers and paramedics at the home.

The male was taken to Lakeridge Health in Oshawa and while he waited to be assessed, he continued to be disruptive and verbally abusive towards hospital staff, paramedics and the officers.

The victim was attempting to calm the male down when he was assaulted and suffered an injury that required medical treatment.

The 23-year-old from Oshawa was charged with Assault Cause Bodily Harm and Uttering Death Threats. He was held for a mental health assessment.
