Durham Police – University Student Run Over During Game

An Ontario Tech University student was run over by a vehicle while playing a game on campus Saturday night.

On Saturday, November 9, 2019, at approximately 8:10 p.m., officers were called to the campus of Ontario Tech/Durham College on Simcoe Street North in Oshawa regarding a male who had been run over by a vehicle.

A 20-year-old Ontario Tech University student was located on Commencement Drive with serious injuries and a white 2020 Mini Cooper was parked nearby. Fraternity members were playing a game called Capture the Brick, which is a scavenger hunt game. One of the game participants, believing a motor vehicle contained the brick, laid down in front of the car to prevent it from leaving.

Unfortunately, another game participant entered the vehicle and, not knowing his friend was in front of the vehicle, drove over him, causing serious injuries, including a fractured leg and shoulder. The male victim was transported to Sunnybrook with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. No charges are anticipated.

Anyone with new information about this investigation is asked to contact Cst. Hutcheson of Central West Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 3810.

Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or on the website at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters are eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
