Numerous vehicles were destroyed after a suspicious fire at Chadwick’s Towing Compound on Sunday, October 6, 2019.

Cobourg Fire Department received the call at approximately 4:40 a.m. to impound lot on Veronica Street behind the Northumberland OPP station.

Captain Bryan Blaind said when fire crews arrived on scene to the fenced in compound, eight vehicles were engulfed in flames along with a boat.

Crews immediately attacked the flames and upgraded the call for more firefighters to attend the scene.

“Vehicle fires burn very hot, they are also very toxic,” said Blaind.

“It takes a lot of water and in this case at the end of the incident we are using foam to try and contain a lot of the fuel that’s burning on the ground.”

The fire was under control within approximately 30-minutes, but because of the leaking fuel, firefighters switched to foam.

At this time, Blaind said the fire is suspicious and Cobourg Police are investigating and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal has been contacted.
