The Cobourg Lawn Bowling Club hosted the Ontario Singles Youth Championships starting on Saturday, July 6, 2019 with the finals on Sunday.
The ages of the youth ranged from 12 to 18-years old and there were 21 from across Ontario who were competing.
The winners will automatically qualify for the Canadian Youth Championship in Juan de Fuca British Columbia between August 6th and 10th.
The event will start at 8.30am on Saturday with a parade of competitors and welcoming remarks from Club President, Bill Arthur; MP for Northumberland – Peterborough South, Kim Rudd; Councillor Emily Chorley representing the Town of Cobourg and Ontario Lawn Bowls Association Director, Steve Schucknecht.
The Cobourg club has three youth members competing. In the girls section will be Baylee van Steijn. Baylee was a silver medal winner at the Canadian Championships last year and has previously won silver in the Ontario Championships. This is her last year as a youth bowler.
Baylee is also a member of the Canadian senior squad. In the boys section will be Dean West and Hobson McMaster. Dean West – Dean is age 14 and has been a member of the Cobourg Youth Lawn Bowling Club for 3 years. This will be his second year competing in the Ontario Championships. Hobson McMaster – Hobson is age 12 and has been a member of the Cobourg Youth Lawn Bowling Club for 5 years. This will be his second year competing in the Ontario Championships.
