Cobourg Kodiaks Lose to Six Nations Chiefs

The Kodiaks lost for only the second time this season on Tuesday night in Six Nations. The Chiefs, who were sporting an impressive lineup, held the lead for most of the game and had an answer any time Cobourg looked to go on a run.

Down 2-0 early, the Kodiaks responded when Colton Armstrong ran past Lyle Thompson and took a beauty pass from Joey Cupido.

Armstrong bounced a shot between Chiefs goalie Doug Jamieson’s legs. Kodiaks goaltender, Kevin Orleman was stellar in net with the highlight of the period being a breakaway save on Randy Staats. Staats took a long pass to put him all alone on Orleman. After several fakes, Orleman the up his left arm to make the save. The Chiefs eventually added another and the first period ended with Chiefs leading 3-1.

The second period was all Chiefs outscoring the Kodiaks 5-2 to extend their their lead to 8-4 after two periods. The Kodiaks tried to use their fast transition game to outrun the Chiefs but couldn’t get any momentum.

The third was back and forth with the teams trading goals. At 9-6 with ten minutes to go in the game, the Kodiaks took two penalties to give the Chiefs a 5 on 3 advantage. Six Nations power play made no mistake and scored twice. The game ended 11-6.

The next game for the Kodiaks is Sunday June 23rd vs Peterborough Lakers at the Cobourg Community Centre. Game time is 6pm. #KodiaksCountry #RoadToTheMannCup
