Cobourg Police – Weekly Report June 10 – June 16, 2019

Monday, June 10, 2019 to Sunday, June 16, 2019, the Cobourg Police Service responded to 202 occurrences including: 6 motor vehicle collisions, 3 alarm calls, 18 theft calls, 12 suspicious persons/vehicles calls, 3 domestic/family disputes, 6 assault calls, 2 drug offences calls, and 2 neighbour disputes. Here are some examples of calls for service for the week:

June 10:
* While conducting a general patrol around the north side of downtown, police recognized a man who was known to be a suspended driver. After a traffic stop was conducted, the driver’s identity and license suspension was confirmed and the man was charged accordingly under the Highway Traffic Act and given a future court date.

* Police attended a north end business after receiving reports of an employee having been assaulted and threatened by a customer. Police are still investigating in attempts to confirm the identity of the suspect responsible.

June 11:
* Loss Prevention Officers at a north end business requested police to assist a woman that was taken into custody for theft. The woman was charged under the Trespass to Property Act and removed from the store.

* Police, fire and EMS responded to an intersection on King Street after a truck had collided with a light pole and reports were received that the driver was trapped in the vehicle. The woman was safely removed from the vehicle and transported to hospital while police investigated the collision.
June 12:
* Police were dispatched to a north end business where loss prevention had taken custody of a man who had attempted to steal Pokémon cards from the business. Police arrested the 35 year old male and subsequently charged him under the Trespass to Property act before releasing him.

* A north end business reported to police that sometime overnight, unknown persons had entered the parking lot and stole gas from numerous vehicles by cutting the gas lines. Approximately $500 in gas was taken before repair costs for the vehicles. Police are continuing the investigation in attempts to identify persons responsible.
June 13:
* Police were dispatched to an address on King Street in response to report of a group of three to four men fighting on the street. Police investigated and determined the fight to be non-threatening and no one wishing any charges or police action. Involved parties were spoken to and cautioned by police for having disturbed the peace.

* A west end business contacted police and requested assistance in removing an unwanted woman from the premises. Police attended and removed her without any further incident. She was additionally trespassed by the business.

June 14:
* Police were dispatched to a downtown business after receiving report of a woman sleeping in the front lobby after hours. Police attended and offered the woman alternative arrangements. She declined and was removed from the premises by police without incident.

* Police are investigating after a shed was broken into and two bicycles were stolen. Police have identified a possible suspect however the matter is still under investigation.

June 15:
* While conducting general patrol during the early morning hours in the downtown area, police observed a suspicious man running through residential back yards after seeing the marked cruiser on patrol. Police located and identified the man a short time later. He was cautioned under the criminal code and subsequently left the area without any further incident.

* Police were dispatched to a north end business where loss prevention officers were following a woman who had stolen several items from the store and left. Police located the woman in another business and was charged under the trespass to property act and banned from re-attending the business.

June 16:
* A resident of Cobourg was reported to police as missing. Police investigated over several hours and determined the woman had left the Cobourg area and, with assistance from Niagara Regional Police Service, she was located and determined to be safe and in good health.

* Police responded to report of erratic and dangerous driving in the city’s north end. A member of the public assisted police by remaining on the line and directing police to the vehicle’s current location. Police investigation determined the cause to be a medical problem. Police are encouraging calls from the public to report any suspected impaired driver by phoning 911.
