Northumberland OPP Investigate Thefts Over The Weekend
Northumberland OPP are investigating after a series of thefts late Friday, May 3, 2019 or possibly early Saturday, May 4, 2019.
A 2001 GMC 2500 with a black cap (not red as shown in photo) and the word “fire fighter” is across the back window of the cap. The license plate number is 890 3LP.
Social media from the owner of the truck said the license plates may have been changed.
The pickup may have been used for the theft of a chip truck at the tennis courts on County Road 9 and County Road 18 in Hamilton Township.
The chip truck was discovered missing by the owner on Saturday, May 4, 2019.
Northumberland OPP were called and it appears a anti-theft device attaching to the trailer hitch was drilled out allowing the suspects to hook up the trailer to a vehicle.
Two, 300-pound propane tanks which were attached to the trailer were dragged a short distance away as the trailer headed west on County Road 9.
The tanks damaged the side of the chip truck and possibly caused a flat tire on one of the wheels before they both ended up in a ditch on the south side of the roadway.
With only three tires on the trailer the suspect/s abandoned the trailer on Westington Road, north of County Road 9 where a person spotted it and notified the owner.
