Swingin’ Big Band on Mother’s Day Weekend
Maybe time for Mom to take part in a “Swingin’ Affair” on Mother’s Day weekend?
OK, not THAT kind of affair. But she might still be “In The Mood.”
This affair “swings” with the music of Glenn Miller, Frank Sinatra, Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey and Count Basie as performed by the Belleville-based Commodores Orchestra, the world’s longest-running big swing band (vocal stylings by Craig Parry).
The show takes place at 8pm on Saturday May 11 at Cobourg’s Victoria Hall. It’s the third and final final installment of the Cobourg Big Band Festival Concert Series. Cobourg’s “Royals” played in February, and and the Ron Marenger Band of Peterborough opened the series in November.
The band is hoping you’ll come and party like it’s 1945. The setting? Cabaret-style seating, a cash bar, and a large dance floor.

As long as you’re “In the Mood,” there’s no need for a “Little Brown Jug” to hold your “Hot Toddies”). And we’ll know if you’re “Stealin Apples,” “It Had To Be You.” If you’re dreaming of a “Canadian Sunset,” we’ll “Fly You To The Moon.” And in the end, you’ll be thinking “What a Wonderful World” after we’ve escorted you on your Sentimental Journey.”
