Northumberland OPP – Two Drivers Face Charges

Officers from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged two drivers with offences under the Criminal Code of Canada.

On April 5, 2019 at approximately 9:45 am an officer stopped a blue Dodge sedan on Main Street in Brighton to investigate an offence under the Smoke Free Ontario Act. The driver, Thomas Douglas SHEPHARD (age 47) of Brighton, Ontario was found to be a prohibited driver and was charged with Drive while Disqualified.

On Saturday April 6, 2019 at approximately 7:45 pm an officer observed a grey Pontiac sedan parked along the shoulder on the eastbound side of Highway 401in Cramahe Township with the hazard lights on. The officer stopped to see if the motorist was in need of any assistance. The driver, David William WHITEMAN (age 33) of Marmora, Ontario was found to be a prohibited driver and was charged with Drive while Disqualified.

Both accused had the vehicles they were driving towed and impounded for 45 days. They are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on May 22, 2019.
