Gold Rush Strike Women’s Hockey Gold at Ontario 55+ Winter Games

Seven Northumberland County women helped team Gold Rush win the women’s hockey gold medal at the Ontario 55+ Winter Games last week.
After winning a qualifying tournament earlier in the season, they qualified to represent District 12 (Northumberland/Peterborough/Kawartha Lakes) in this years’ Games, hosted by Huntsville from March 5 to 7.
The Gold Rush women were undefeated in round-robin play, earning themselves a berth in the final against District 26 (Kitchener/Waterloo). It was a hard-fought battle and the locals won 2-1 to bring home the gold.
The team will go on to represent Ontario in the 2020 Canada 55+ Games which will be held in Kamloops, B.C.
Northumberland County residents who played on the team included Nancy MacDonald, Claudia van der Meulen, Linda Bloom, Jennifer Ashley, Sandi MacDonald-Wangen, Paula Nelson, and Kathy Pearson.
