Cobourg Police – Weekly Media Release December 31, 2018 to January 6, 2019

Release Narrative:

From the 31st day of December, 2018 through the 6th day of January, 2019 the Cobourg Police Service responded to 150 occurrences including; 3 Community Service calls, 17 Police Assistance calls, 6 Traffic Complaints, 4 Fraud calls, 5 Suspicious Person calls, 2 Police Information calls, 9 Property Related calls, 4 Assault calls, 5 Break and Enter Calls, 12 – 911 calls, 8 Theft calls, 13 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 3 Alarm calls, 4 Disturb the Peace calls, 1 Threats call, 1 Noise complaint, 2 Domestic Dispute calls, 2 Attempt or Threat of Suicide, 2 Mischief calls. Some examples of calls for service this week include;

Monday, December 31, 2018:

At approximately 11:50am Officers responded to the area of Baltimore Road in the Town of Cobourg, after receiving a report of a single vehicle motor vehicle collision. No reported injuries. As a result of a Police investigation the involved driver was charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

At approximately 12:42pm, Police were dispatched to attend the area of Northumberland Hills Hospital after receiving a report of a coyote observed wandering in the area. Responding Officers were advised that the coyote was not aggressive, but looked scared. Police attended and searched the area with negative results.

Police responded to a report of a two vehicle collision in the area of Parkview Hills Drive at approximately 4:15pm. No parties injured. Property damage only. As a result of subsequent Police investigation one driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for starting from parked position not in safety.

Tuesday, January 1, 2019:

At approximately 9:16am Officers responded to a residential address in the west end Cobourg, after receiving a report of a coyote observed wandering in the area. Police subsequently attended and spoke with the complainant, who advised the coyote had proceeded into a conservation area prior to POLICE arrival. No further Police Action required.
At 1:45pm Officers responded to a residential address located in the east end of town after receiving a report of a theft from motor vehicle overnight. Police investigation revealed the vehicle had been left unlocked. No reported witness or suspects at this time.
At 2:20pm Police responded to a report of a two vehicle collision in a west end neighborhood. No injuries, property damage only. As a result of subsequent Police investigation one driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for red light – fail to sop.
Wednesday, January 2, 2019

Officers of the Cobourg Police Service were dispatched to a west end neighborhood after receiving a report of suspicious activity in the neighborhood overnight. Responding officers learned that security cameras in the area had captured unknown persons approaching multiple vehicles in the neighborhood who were assumed to be checking cars for unlocked doors. No thefts reported. No witness to the incident.

At 2:00pm a Resident of the Town of Cobourg attended the Cobourg Police Station requesting to speak with an Officer regarding a mischief which had reportedly occurred in an east end residential neighborhood overnight. Investigating officers learned unknown person(s) sprayed painted graffiti on the retaining wall, associated to a residential address in the neighborhood. Graffiti reportedly an ongoing issue in the area. No suspects. No witnesses. Investigation continues.

At 9:12pm Police were dispatched to the downtown core after receiving a 9-1-1 call from the area. No voice contact at ring back. No subscriber information available for the involved number. Police attended and conducted an extensive search of the area. No person(s) located who appeared to be in distress. Call deemed unfounded.

Thursday, January 3, 2019

At approximately 12:00pm Officers responded to a business in the downtown core, after receiving a report of an after the fact break and enter. Police investigation determined that sometime overnight unknown person(s) pried the lock off of rear sliding door allowing access to be gained to the premise. No suspects, no witnesses.
At approximately 3:20pm, Police responded to a business in the downtown core, after receiving a reported of an attempted break and enter overnight. Subsequent Police investigation determined that the exterior locks of the business had been tampered with, but entry no had been gained into the premise. No suspects. No witnesses.

At 10:00pm Officers responded to a residential address in the downtown core, after receiving a report of an unwanted person inside the home. Responding officers located the involved female, who left the area when directed by to do so by POLICE without incident.

Friday, January 4, 2019

At approximately 8:00am Officers responded to a parking lot in the west end of Cobourg after receiving a report of a pedestrian stuck by a motor vehicle . One person was subsequently transported to Northumberland Hills Hospital by ambulance for further medical treatment. The involved party was treated by and later released from hospital.

At 12:30pm Police responded to a report of a two vehicle collision in an east end neighborhood. No injuries reported property damage only. As a result of subsequent Police investigation one driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act.

On Friday the 4th of January, 2019, at approximately 11:30 pm, police, along with paramedics, responded to a medical call at a private residence located in a west end neighborhood. Police located a man on scene that was currently sought by the Cobourg Police Service on the strength of outstanding warrants for his arrest. As a result of a subsequent Police investigation 31 year old Cody Sleep of Cobourg was arrested and charged with Assault and Failing to attend Court under the Criminal Code. Sleep remained in custody pending a Bail Hearing via video scheduled for the 5th day of January 2018.

Saturday, January 5, 2019

At 3:10om Officers responded to a residential address located in an east end of Cobourg after receiving a report of an after the fact break and enter. Responding Officers determined that sometime between 17 December 2018 and 5 January 2019 unknown person(s) pried open a basement window gaining entry into the home. Investigation continues.

Police responded to residential address, at 7:30pm after receiving a report of a theft from motor vehicle overnight. Police investigation revealed the vehicle had been left unlocked. No reported witnesses or suspects.

At 7:45pm Officers responded an east end address after receiving a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area of a residential construction site. Officers conducted an extensive search of the area, but were unable to locate any person(s) or vehicles in the area. All appeared in order.

Sunday, January 6 2019

At 2:00pm Officers responded to a west end residential neighborhood after receiving a report of a water main break in the area. Responding Officers contacted the Town of Cobourg Works Department, who attended to address the issue.
Police responded to a local business in the west end of Cobourg at approximately 8:00pm after Loss Prevention Officers reported a theft from the premise. Stolen items valued at $2,470.00. Investigation continues.
Cobourg Police Service Uniform Officers in partnership with Special Constables conducted routine patrols of Rotary Park, including the area of the outdoor rink throughout the day. All patrols were completed without incident.
