Cobourg Police – Weekly Media Release

From the 10th of December 2018 through the 16th of December 2018, the Cobourg Police Service responded to 163 occurrences including; 8 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 9 Theft/Shoplifting calls, 1 Mischief call, 3 Assault calls, 21 Police information/Assistance calls and 17 Community Service related calls. Here are some examples of calls for service for the week:
10 December 2018
A complainant attended the Cobourg Police Service to report that while at a business in the Northumberland Mall, she left her boots unattended and they were stolen. The boots, a pair of $200 Blundstones, were stolen by unknown person(s). The investigation is ongoing.
11 December 2018
A male complainant was spoken to about being harassed by another male. The complainant advised that the male was currently on conditions not to have contact with him and while at a business in the Northeast of Cobourg he was confronted by the male. The investigation is currently ongoing and charges may be laid in the near future.

A resident on Chipping Park Boulevard contacted Police to advise that he had his vehicle parked for several hours and during that time unknown person(s) had entered it. The suspects stole a quantity of cash and several personal items belonging to the complainant. The complainant advised that he had forgot to lock his vehicle but only left it open for a few hours. There are no suspects at this time.

12 December 2018
Police attended a car dealership on Division Street for a motor vehicle collision with a male being run over. On arrival and after further investigation it was determined that the male was an employee that was conducting maintenance on the vehicle. The vehicle had lost braking ability and the male attempted to slow it down by dragging his foot and was subsequently run over by the vehicle. The male was transported to the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Police attended a Battell Street address for a report of a break and enter. On arrival Police spoke with the victim who advised that the window into his rented room had been smashed but did not believe entry was gained. A scenes of crime officer attended to process the area for identification purposes. There are no suspects at this time.

13 December 2018
A female complainant attended the Cobourg Police to report that she was being harassed by her ex-boyfriend and would like it to stop. The complainant advised that she was being followed, called rude names and had been given the finger several times. The male was spoken to and provided a completely opposite story advising police that it was the complainant being rude and giving him the finger. Both parties given advice to stay away from each other.

Police attended a Division Street residence for a report of a domestic dispute. Prior to arrival Police were given information that the male had hit the female with a baseball bat as well as an animal inside the apartment. On arrival Police spoke with all parties including a witness who advised Police that it was in fact the female that was being verbally aggressive to the male and did not observe a baseball bat. The male was transported by police to a relative’s residence for the evening.

14 December 2018
Police attended a Strathy Road address for a report of a vehicle that had been parked there for several days. After running the VIN it was determined that vehicle had in fact been stolen from Fraser Ford and was returned without incident.

Police received a call of a male that was yelling near the downtown core. Police arrived on scene a short time later and located an intoxicated male. The male was arrested for being intoxicated in a public place and transported to the Cobourg Police Service and lodged in cells until he was sober.

15 December 2018
A call was received from a Town of Cobourg employee of a male that was passed out in the bus shelter located on Albert Street. Police arrived shortly after and arrested a 70 year old male for being intoxicated in a public place. The male was transported to the Cobourg Police Service where he was held until sober.

16 December 2018
Police attended a business in the West end for a report of an alarm. On arrival Police observed that unknown person(s) had removed the glass from the front door and entered the business. Upon entering the business a sum of cash was taken and the suspect(s) fled out of the rear door. Cobourg Police conducted scenes of crime and the investigation is ongoing.

While Police were busy with a break and enter at a business, a citizen approached Police to advise them that he believed the door to another business close by was also smashed. Police attended that business and conducted an investigation. Video equipment was taken as well as a quantity of cash. This investigation is also ongoing.
