Northumberland OPP – Weekend Media Release

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 162 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:

December 7
Just after 2:00 am officers attended an address in the town of Brighton for a report of a family dispute in p rogress between two male parties. As a result of the investigation a 22 year-old male from Brighton, Ontario was arrested and charged with Assault and Mischief. The accused male was held until sober then released. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brighton on a date in January 2019.
Officers investigated a domestic dispute that occurred in Hamilton Township at approximately 10:00 am. Police arrested and charged a 36 year-old female from Cavan-Monaghan Township with Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm. She was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in January 2019.
A female from Brighton, Ontario reported leaving her wallet on top of a gas pump at a fueling station in the town of Brighton. The wallet was turned over to the gas bar attendant but $300 was reported missing from the wallet. Investigation continuing.*
Northumberland OPP officers were conducting a festive RIDE program in the Centreton area located in Alnwick-Haldimand Township. At approximately 6:00 pm a grey sedan approached the officers check point. Upon speaking with the male driver, officers quickly determined that the driver was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. As a result of the investigation 36 year-old Ryan Christopher TOMS of Port Hope, Ontario was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code of Canada with Care or Control over 80mgs. The accused received an immediate 90 day licence suspension and further had his vehicle towed and impounded. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on January 2, 2019.


December 8
Just after 3:00 am officers received information in regards to a female youth sustaining minor burn injuries while in attendance at a field party near Barnham House Road and County Road 2 in Alnwick-Haldimand Township. While sitting near a bonfire a flammable container was allegedly thrown into the fire causing the flames to catch onto the female. Investigation continuing.*


December 9
Just before 2:00 am officers responded to a report of an assault that occurred just outside of a hotel located in Colborne in Cramahe Township. One male was transported to hospital with minor injuries. Police arrested and charged 23 year old Dylan SCRIVER of Peterborough, Ontario under the Criminal Code of Canada with Assault Causing Bodily Harm. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the On tario Court of Justice in Cobourg in January 2019.
Police continue to investigate a break and enter that occurred at the general store in the village of Castleton. Just after 2:30 am suspect(s) entered store and took an unknown quantity of cigarettes and candy. Investigation ongoing.*
Officers also investigated 14 accidental 911 calls/alarms, 13 motor vehicle collisions; 40 traffic related complaints and conducted 21 RIDE programs over the weekend.
