Cobourg Police Weekly Media Release
From the 19th of November 2018 through the 25th of November 2018, the Cobourg Police Service responded to 152 occurrences including: 12 Motor Vehicle Collisions, 8 Alarm calls, 10 Theft/Shoplifting calls, 5 Suspicious Persons/Vehicles calls, 2 Domestic/Family Disputes, 2 Mischief calls, 3 Assault calls, and 9 Mental Health calls. Here are some examples of calls for service for the week:
November 19:
· Police attended a business in the downtown area for an unwanted person who was being disruptive to other customers. Police removed person without incident.
· Police investigated a motor vehicle collision at Strathy Road and Elgin Street West. A woman driver was charged with Failing to Yield under the Highway Traffic Act.
November 20:
· Police investigated the theft of a camping trailer from a local business. The trailer was subsequently recovered and reclaimed by the owner. The investigation is ongoing.
· Police were requested to attend a private residence to stand by and keep the peace while personal belongings were obtained.
November 21:
· Police arrested a 21 year old man on outstanding warrants and turned him over to the Ontario Provincial Police who issued the warrant.
· A woman was charged with Pass – Roadway not clear under the Highway Traffic Act after a motor vehicle collision on Carroll Crescent.
November 22:
· Police investigated a mischief at a local motel after extensive damage was done to one of the rooms. Charges are pending in the matter.
· Police assisted Cobourg Fire with a residential fire caused as a result of food being left unmonitored on the stove. No serious injuries occurred as a result of the fire and there was no significant damage to the residence.
November 23:
· Police investigated a mischief in the downtown core in which the window in the secure access door to an apartment complex was smashed.
· Police were requested to check on the well-being of a man after support staff was unable to contact him. Police located the man in good health inside his residence.
November 24:
· Police attended a licenced premise in the downtown area after receiving a report of unruly patrons causing issues for staff. A cab was called and the persons in question left without further incident.
· Police investigated a fail to remain motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Burnham Street and Burwash Street in which the offending vehicle fled the scene of the collision.
November 25:
· Cobourg Police charge a youth with Person under 19 years – Possess Cannabis under the Cannabis Act.
· Police charge a woman with Engage in Prohibited Activity on Premises under the Trespass to Property Act after responding to a shoplifting report at a local retail store.
