Northumberland OPP – Weekend News Brief

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 130 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:

November 23

• At approximately 3:15 p.m. an officer stopped a white Mercedes sedan after it was measured travelling 154km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone on County Road 45 near Beagle Club Road in Alnwick-Haldimand Townshi p. As a result of the investigation a 42 year-old male from Cobourg, Ontario was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with Race a Motor Vehicle. His driver’s licence was suspended for seven days and the vehicle he was driving was towed and impounded for seven days. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 9, 2018.
• Police responded to a threat of suicide in the Municipality of Brighton after it was reported that a female youth had ingested a large amount of over the counter medication. The female was located then transported to hospital for further assessment and treatment.

 

November 24

• Officers responded to a report of a possible impaired driver on County Road 45, near Roseneath in Alnwick-Haldimand Township at approximately 2:00 p.m. An officer located the black pick-up truck and spoke with the male driver. The officer then entered into a drinking and driving investigation. A roadside test was conducted for alcohol consumption using the Approved Screening Device (ASD), resulting in the 64 year-old male from Alnwick-Haldimand Township receiving a 3-day driver’s licence suspension. A tow company was called to remove the vehicle from the location. The operator of the tow truck showed signs of alcohol consumption, which subsequently resulted in the 64 year-old male driver of the truck being issued a 3-day drivers licence suspension after registering an “alert” reading the ASD. The tow truck was removed by a sober driver. Another tow company was utilized to assist with removing the pick-up truck from the scene.
• A resident who resides on Darnley Street in Hastings reported to police that her Christmas lights were stolen sometime overnight.*
• An officer located a load of refuse that was left at the intersection of Marydale Road and Stacey Road in the Municipality of Port Hope. Notifications were made to have the debris removed. Investigation continuing.*

 

November 25

• Police responded to a report of a domestic dispute in Hamilton Township. Officers spoke with two recently separated parties who were having a verbal disagreement regarding child custody issues. Advice was provided.
• A theft of gas was reported at 10:00 a.m. from a business on Elizabeth Street in the town of Brighton. A white hatchback sedan drove off without paying for fuel. Investigation continuing.*

Officers also investigated 11 accidental 911 calls/alarms, 14 motor vehicle collisions; 23 traffic related complaints and conducted 12 RIDE programs over the weekend.
