Diamond 5 Strikes Out In Grafton
Diamond 5 at the Haldimand Township Community Arena is soon to become a memory.
On July 24, 2018 workers started dismantling the diamond which is located on the south west corner of the property.
Sherry Gibson who is the Parks and Recreation Councillor for Alnwick/Haldimand Township said they received $75,000 in the Spring from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to purchase playground equipment for the Grafton community. The municipality kicked in another $25,000.
Various pieces of equipment have been purchased through Henderson Recreation Equipment with an anticipated completion date of late August.
Alnwick/Haldimand Township Public Works Department is doing the excavating with Henderson installing the equipment.
The fence around the diamond is being donated to the Grafton Legion.
Parks and Recreation Manager for Alnwick/Haldimand Township Chris Curwin said diamond 5 was used approximately twice a month.
“It was not regulation size so it could not be used for any of our adult leagues and tournaments.”
