(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 117 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:

July 7

• Just after 7:00 am police received a report of materials, used for track repairs, were being loaded into a blue pickup truck by a lone male. An employee on a train travelling through the area of Huff Road and County Road 2 reporte d the theft. Police patrolled the area but the suspect was not located.*
• A Port Hope business owner notified police that his shop was broken into sometime overnight. Reported missing were two Stihl saws with diamond blades along with a small amount of cash. Investigation is ongoing*
•  A resident from Hamilton Township called police to report that she believed telephone fraudsters had contacted her. She received a call from someone who identified themselves as an employee from her banking institution, reporting that her credit card had been compromised. She realized it was a scam after being requested that she purchase various gift cards. She then discovered that she had been locked out of her online bank account. It was unknown at the time if any fraudulent activity had occurred on her account. Police want to remind the public to never give out personal, credit card or online account details over the phone unless you made the call and the phone number came from a trusted source.

July 8

• Police conducted a traffic stop involving a silver sedan in Hamilton Township. The officer observed evidence of illegal drugs in the motor vehicle resulting in the male driver being arrested. The officer began an investigation under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. As a result of the investigation Cameron David Leeds ( age 23) of Hamilton Township was charged with Possession of schedule II substance – cannabis marihuana. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on August 22, 2018.
• Just after 6:00 p.m. an officer was conducting speed enforcement on Highway 401 in the Municipality of Port Hope ON. A grey sedan, heading eastbound, was measured on radar as travelling 184 km per hour in a posted 100 km per hour zone. The 38 year old driver Walid Mohsein Mouzahem from Kingston, Ontario was charged with stunt driving. His driver’s license was suspended for 7 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on August 15, 2018.
• Officers responded to a family dispute in the Alnwick-Haldimand Township area. A father and son were having a verbal dispute over house hold rules and chores. Advic e was provided to both parties and all was calm upon police departure.

Northumberland OPP officers also investigated 14 accidental 9-1-1 calls, 7 motor vehicle collisions, 27 traffic related complaints and conducted 7 RIDE programs over the weekend.
