The Cobourg Public Library is kicking off the month of May with a PD Day.
Usually the preserve of educators, a professional-development day is planned for library staffers at all three branches on May 3, with regular hours resuming Friday, March 4.
Fun family time at the Cobourg branch includes several activities. Tinker Table Fridays offers you the chance to design and build something of your own devising. From May 22 to 26, visit the youth-services department for a Library Lib sheet that will help you create your own stories. And at all three branches, take part in the What Book Am I challenge May 12 to 17 for a chance to identify book titles for fun and prizes.
Young people aged 13 and up who are interested in a more active role with their library can register for the Teen Advisory Group. It meets May 8 and 29 at 4:30 p.m.
Adults might be interested in registering for Northumberland: A Great Place To Explore at 6:30 p.m. May 9, to learn more about tourism (along with the trails, attractions, points of interest available locally). On May 12, families can register to try out Alice In Wonderland Wacky Croquet from 10 a.m. to noon.
Ongoing programs continue at the Cobourg branch through May:
Mondays – The Needle Nuts Yarn Circle meets at 10:30 a.m. (bring your own project, or work on one for a local organization). At 1:30 p.m., the reading club for intellectually challenged adults meets – guest readers and new members are always welcome.
Mondays and Fridays – It’s movie time at 2 p.m. Enjoy a popular feature, along with some refreshments.
Wednesdays – It’s Family Story Time at 10:30 a.m. for pre-schoolers and, at 2:30 p.m., Homeschooling Friends welcomes home-schooled students for a program of stories, activities and snacks.
The Cobourg branch’s two special book clubs will also meet in May.
The Cookbook Club challenges you to take the monthly theme, grab a cookbook, and come prepared with a recipe to share. This month, it meets at 1 p.m. May 2, and the theme is Eat Your Veggies.
The Boomers Book Club selects an author of the month, and you are invited to attend the meeting armed with one of that person’s books and looking forward to a spirited discussion. This month, it meets May 11 at 10 a.m., and the author is Toni Morrison.
At the Bewdley branch, check out Family Story Time Fridays at 10 a.m. and the Bewdley Yarn Circle Thursdays at 7 p.m.
At the Gore’s Landing branch, young people aged 13 and up (and adults too) are welcome to register for the Introduction to Bullet Journaling workshop May 8 at 7 p.m., a new way to organize your life and keep things in order.
Book clubs will also meet at both branches – May 1 at 1 p.m. in Gore’s Landing and May 30 at 6:30 p.m. in Bewdley. Be sure to register, if you’re interested.
And if you’re in Hamilton Township May 5, and in a mood to enjoy the monthly pancake breakfast at Harwood Community Hall from 9:30 to 11 a.m., take a moment to check out the Breakfast, Books & More program. It’s your chance to sign up for a library card and actually check out materials on the spot from the mobile library service.
