(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 146 incidents this past weekend, here are some examples:
Apr 6:
– A property owner on Ganaraska Rd (near Grist Mill Rd) in Port Hope reported that within the last week unknown person(s) stole two chainsaws and a white Yamaha golf cart from the area where they are building a new home. An older 38 foot 5th wheel trailer was also lit on fire and destroyed. Investigation ongoing.*
– A seasonal home owner on Price St West in Brighton reported that within the past two months unknown culprit(s) broke a basement window in the carport and entered the home. Once inside, a telescope, a small black wine fridge, a queen size homemade goose down duvet cover and black medical bag with first aid supplies were stolen. Evidence was collected at the scene and the investigation is ongoing.*
– Report of stolen Ontario licence plates #5096DB sometime in the past eight months from a truck parked at a Castleton business on Spring St.*
– Two investigations were initiated at the Warkworth Institution; one relating to an inmate reporting an assault and the other when a homemade weapon was seized from an inmate.
Apr 7:
– A tractor-trailer was reported to be travelling on Hwy 401 in Hamilton Twp with a rear door wide open. Officers located the truck and notified the driver. No charges resulted.
– A motorist was stopped for speeding on County Rd 8 in Trent Hills at approximately 1:00pm. The driver, a 39 yr old Lindsay man, was found to be driving while under suspension and was charged accordingly. His white Dodge Ram truck was towed from the scene and impounded for seven days.
– Shortly before 12midnight police received complaints of a red Nissan SUV swerving across all lanes and almost striking guardrails on Hwy 401 eastbound from the Whitby area. Officers located the vehicle still travelling eastbound in the Port Hope area and observed the same erratic driving. The SUV was stopped and the driver showed signs of impairment. He was arrested and taken to the Cobourg Detachment for further tests. As a result of these tests, Rudy BOURQUE age 25 of Quebec City, Quebec is charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle and Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on April 25, 2018.
Apr 8:
– Police responded to a family dispute at a Brighton residence where it was reported that an adult daughter threw coffee on her mother during an argument. Officers provided advice to the family members who were reportedly arguing over the crowded living conditions which included seven children in the home. No charges resulted.
– Police investigated three domestic disputes; Seymour Twp – texts from an ex-partner thought to be indicating self-harm actually were referring to ending the relationship, Hamilton Twp – unwanted texts from ex-boyfriend, Port Hope – dispute over child visitation order. Officers provided advice and no charges resulted in these calls to police.
– A 20 yr old man contacted police from a motel in Hamilton Twp requesting that officers check on the well-being of his mother near Bewdley. After further questioning the male admitted he just wanted a ride to that residence. He was cautioned on the appropriate use of police resources with no further action by the officers.
Northumberland OPP officers investigated nine accidental 9-1-1 calls, four motor vehicle collisions, 24 traffic related complaints and conducted 19 RIDE programs over the weekend.
