Northumberland OPP Weekly News Posts
(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 252 incidents this past week, here are some examples:
Mar 5:
- A suspicious male was reported to be seen entering a vehicle parked in a driveway on County Rd 50 north of Campbellford at approximately 9:00pm. The male, who appeared to be scared off by the v ehicle’s alarm, is described as a Caucasian male, medium build wearing a baseball cap last seen walking northbound. No items were taken or damaged.*
- A Colborne area resident contacted police to advise that she was contemplating self-harm after ingesting both legal and illegal drugs that day. Officers stood by until EMS arrived and transported her to a hospital for treatment.
- Officers with the Community Mobilization Unit provided a Trent Hills mother with advice and safety planning regarding her developmentally delayed daughter’s vulnerability. Other community services were also engaged to assist the family moving forward.

- Mar 6:
- A gas station on Big Apple Dr in Colborne reported a $89.32 theft of gas (drive off) shortly aft er 4:00am involving a white Jeep driven by a young male with scruffy hair wearing a green jacket. Investigation ongoing.*
- A Brighton resident reported the theft of a $1,500 engagement ring from the safe in her home in the past six months. Investigation ongoing. *
- At approximately 12:30am a motorist travelling westbound on Hwy 401 in the Port Hope area reported striking debris on the highway. The damages were estimated to be in excess of $2,000 requiring the SUV to be towed off of the highway. The debris was removed from the roadway and a report submitted.

- Mar 7:
- Police responded to nine domestic disputes this day. Hamilton Twp – custody dispute over children, Colborne – dispute over dog feces on the adjoining property of ex -partner, Alderville – one partner seeking attention from other engaged police to prove a point, Brighton – dispute over unwanted texts from ex-partner, Brighton – unwanted ex-partner would not leave premises, Brighton – ex-partner complained about being arrested last night in another area for spousal assault, Brighton – dispute over money issues, Port Hope – dispute over a child visitation order initiated by CAS, Colborne – dispute over attending a funeral, Brighton – dispute over one partner’s recent incarceration and resulting financial struggles. No charges resulted in any of these domestic investigations.
- A Colborne area motorist reported a family member attempted to run him off of the road as a result of a dispute over an estate. No charges were laid as requested by the caller.
- A Hamilton Twp resident reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be from the Canada R evenue Agency threatening arrest if unpaid taxes aren’t paid. The resident recognized this as a fraud and did not give any personal information or money to the scam artist.*

- Mar 8:
- A 29 yr old Grafton man was stopped for speeding on Purdy Rd in Cramahe Twp. Officers determined that his licence was under suspension and that there was an outstanding committal warrant for his arrest and detention. The male was charged accordingly and transported to an area correctional facility to serve 30 days in jail as ordered by the courts in an unrelated court case.
- Police were asked to check on a Trent Hills home after suspicious tire marks were observed in the snow by a friend looking after the residence while the owners were away. Officers noted that the home appeared to be secure and that the dually tire tracks led to the propane tanks making it likely that there was a recent delivery of propane and not a break in.
- Police responded to a domestic dispute in the Warkworth area involving the matrimonial home. One partner spent the night elsewhere and no charges resulted.

- Northumberland OPP officers invest igated four accidental 911 calls, 13 motor vehicle collisions, 36 traffic related complaints and conducted 12 RIDE programs during this time period.
