First Annual Hamilton Township Fire Department Chili Competition A Success
The first annual Hamilton Township Fire Department Chili Competition was a resounding success.
The competition was held for firefighters from all three stations in Hamilton Township and held at the fire department’s quarterly meeting at the Cold Springs Hall on Wednesday, February 21, 2018.
“The last bunch of times we’ve had hot dogs, but (Director of Fire Services) Kelly and I thought we’d have a chili competition,” said District Chief Mike Robinson.
It started off with two pots but quickly went up to 14 different entries with one team of two men.
“We had everything from wild game to mutton (sheep) and one person took sirloin tipped roast smoked it and shredded it and made chili.”
The judges were former Hamilton Township firefighters Ken Clapperton, Bill Cane along with Leisha Sage and Rhino’s Roadhouse owner Dave Austin.
Along with the judges awards, 53 firefighters also got to vote for their favourite chili.
Judges first place was awarded to:
Fire Place Scott and Josh Minifie
Second Place Craig Davey
Third Place Darrell Philip.

“It was a lot of fun and fed the crew and looks like we have leftovers,” Robinson said shortly after the competition was over.
The Chili Competition was so popular Robinson said it will be an annual event.
“The skies the limit, it’s a great thing for us, friendly competition and definitely a moral builder.”
