Northumberland Detachment of the OPP dealt with 180 incidents this past long weekend – here are a few

(NORTHUMBERLAND, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) dealt with 180 incidents this past long weekend, here are some examples:

Feb 16:
– Police responded to a domestic dispute at a Hamilton Twp home where a couple were fighting over one’s excessive drinking. As a result of the ensuing investigation one partner was arrested and charged with Spousal Assault. The 33 yr old male was released with an impending court date. Name withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
– A Brighton area mother wanted her adult daughter spoken to by police after having orange juice thrown at her when she refused to co-sign for a loan. The daughter was cautioned for her actions as requested by her mother, no charges resulted.
– A separated parent requested police presence to keep the peace when dropping off his child to the mother. Officers had to intercede and calm down the couple who began to get into a heated argument. No charges resulted.

Feb 17:
– At 1:00am police were dispatched to a railway access road in Brighton near Boes Rd in response to a vehicle on fire. Firefighters extinguished the unoccupied black 2017 Ford F150 which was completely destroyed. The investigation revealed that the truck had been stolen from a Prince Edward St address sometime after 5:00pm the day before. Investigation ongoing.*
– At 3:00am a 2004 Ford Explorer was stopped in Campbellford resulting in the 37 yr old female driver from Havelock, Ontario being charged with Drive motor vehicle with speed measuring warning device (radar detector) and No clear view to front (of vehicle) contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
– At approximately 11:00pm a black GMC Envoy was travelling on County Rd 18 in Alnwick-Haldimand Twp at a high rate of speed. The vehicle narrowly missed striking a police cruiser going the opposite direction causing the officer to conduct a traffic stop. The ensuing investigation resulted in Tyler James BENNETT age 37 of Alderville First Nation being arrested and charged with Impaired Care & Control of a motor vehicle and Care & Control of a motor vehicle while his blood alcohol content exceeded 80mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. He was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg March 7, 2018.

Feb 18:
– At approximately 7:00am an officer was conducting radar enforcement on Hwy 401 in the Brighton area and measured a black 2018 BMW travelling eastbound at 176 km/h. The 19 yr old North York, Ontario driver was charged with Stunt Driving – Excessive Speed and faces a court date in April. His licence was suspended for seven days and car impounded for the same period of time.
– A resident on Bethel Grove Rd in Hamilton Twp reported his two unlocked vehicles entered sometime last evening. A wallet, purse and hand tools were taken. Investigation ongoing.*
– Police responded to a disturbance at the Campbellford Memorial Hospital resulting in an 18 yr old female being removed from the emergency department. She was cautioned for her actions while visiting a patient and arrangements were made to return her home. No charges resulted.

Feb 19:
– Officers attended a Bewdley residence where adult family members were arguing over cigarettes. One family member left for the day to keep the peace. Alcohol was a contributing factor to the family dynamics that day.
– A Brighton resident reported being locked out of his house after an argument with his partner. Police spoke to the female inside the home and confirmed nothing criminal had occurred. One partner left for the night to keep the peace. Alcohol was a contributing factor.
– Police were called to a Grand Rd business in Campbellford where two persons were arguing in the parking lot. Officers determined that a child was being dropped off by one family member to another at which point an argument ensued over missing clothing needed for the visit. Police calmed the situation down and no charges resulted.

Northumberland OPP officers investigated 14 accidental 9-1-1 calls, 12 motor vehicle collisions, 37 traffic related complaints and conducted 15 RIDE programs over the weekend.
