Alnwick/Haldimand Township Council – Alnwick/Haldimand Township Finds Big Insurance Savings

By Cecilia Nasmith/Today’s Northumberland

Alnwick-Haldimand Township council saved its taxpayers $150,000 in the first five minutes of this week’s council meeting with a favourable insurance quote.

Chief Administrative Officer Troy Gilmour noted that the $499,000 policy they had in 2022 was rising to $577,000 for 2023. They looked around for alternatives and got a quote that offered roughly $150,000 in savings from a company called Marsh.

It’s a huge savings for the township,” Gilmour said.

Everything’s covered in it the same, and it’s positive good-news information.”

Councillor Mary Catherine O’Neill asked about the reputation of this new company and whether others who have used it are satisfied.

There’s quite a difference when you make a claim with different insurance providers,” she pointed out.

Gilmour stressed that the company came “highly recommended” by the same broker the township has been dealing with – for at least 10 to 15 years, Mayor John Logel estimated.

They’re local. They have a very good reputation,” Logel added.

Council voted unanimously to proceed with the switch
