Panthers, Rebels Both Defeated Despite Roster Changes

For the third time this season, the Port Hope Panthers were defeated by the Frankford Huskies in Provincial Junior Hockey League action on Saturday evening.
Frankford, now 5-8-0-0 heading into a Sunday night game in Amherstview, won just once during the regular season last year as an expansion team in the junior C loop, but are finding more success with a revamped roster in the early going of their second campaign.
Jacob Tinney and Tyler Sawkins each scored twice in a 4-1 victory over the Panthers (2-7-0-2) at the Frankford Arena. Carter Clarke scored for Port Hope.
In other action Saturday night, the host Campbellford Rebels were edged 4-3 by the Amherstview Jets, which scored three times unanswered in the third period.
Campbellford led 3-1 coming out of the middle frame on goals from Steven Mayock, Jacoby Martin and Carden Guerin. Mayock’s goal was his first for the Rebels and in his debut after being acquired from Port Hope.
Cobourg’s Nolan Stevenson earned an assist on Amherstview’s game-winning goal. It was with his debut with the Jets after being acquired from Port Hope in exchange for the rights to Connor MacGregor, also of Cobourg, who previously played for the Rebels.
Port Hope traded Mayock and Brayden Friedrick to Campbellford in exchange for Cobourg’s Josh Sainthill.
In another move, the Panthers dealt the rights of Michael Patrick to the Napanee Raiders for the rights to overager Logan White, who won the PJHL’s Tod Division last year with the Raiders.
White made his debut for the Panthers on Saturday night while Sainthill played his first game Friday in Napanee. MacGregor has now played two games for Port Hope.
Next up, the Panthers will host Frankford on Saturday night. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at the Jack Burger Sports Complex.
The Rebels (0-9-0-0), still seeking their first win, take on the undefeated Napanee Raiders (14-0-0-0) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Campbellford-Seymour Community Centre.
