Cobourg Council – Parking Change Improves Safety for Farmers’ Market Vendors

Cobourg Councillor Adam Bureau succeeded at this week’s council meeting in getting his motion passed to provide parking for Farmers’ Market vendors in the Albert Street parking lot.
At present, the Farmers’ Market organization has 40 parking passes for the Second Street parking lot across the street, Bureau explained. But the Albert Street lot is adjacent to the market, making it safer and easier for vendors to load and unload the stalls and heavy quantities of produce each Saturday.
Under new parking regulations, this lot becomes designated as Waterfront Parking during the tourist season, meaning it costs $5 an hour to use it. Therefore, the parking passes provided limit the use by Farmers’ Market participants to 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday during the 2022 Farmers’ Market season.
Bureau had originally wanted all 40 passes to be used at the Albert Street lot, but Councillor Brian Darling argued it should be 20 passes for Albert Street and 20 for Second Street.
