By Cecilia Nasmith/Today’s Northumberland
Cobourg will be doing its part to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II with May 29 festivities.

At this week’s council meeting, Councillor Adam Bureau shared details on plans to commemorate the monarch’s 75th anniversary on the throne, making her Canada’s longest-reigning sovereign and the first to celebrate a platinum jubilee.

It begins with a 1:30 p.m. ceremony in Jubilee Park. This is the park at William and Elgin Street, Mayor John Henderson noted, and there will be the dedication of a plinth.

This will be followed by a parade at 2:30 p.m. from Victoria Hall to Victoria Park. There, everyone can enjoy a free concert by the Concert Band of Cobourg and the Cobourg Legion Pipes and Drums, as well as a barbecue.
