The Port Hope Panthers are moving on in the Provincial Junior Hockey League playoffs.
Logan Kelly scored on a power play 9:52 into overtime to give the Panthers a 4-3 win Monday night in Game 5 of the best-of-seven showdown at the Jack Burger Sports Complex in Port Hope.
Four of the five games in the opening round series went into overtime before Port Hope prevailed 4-1.
Monday night, the Panthers jumped out to a quick 2-0 advantage on goals by Carter Clarke at the 35-second mark and Camden Stickney at 1:02. Evan Wright bolstered the lead to 3-0 in the second period before a three-goal rally by the Rebels ultimately forced extra time.
Two goals late in the middle frame by Jacob McPhee cut the deficit to one for Campbellford and Connor MacGregor evened the score near the midway mark of the third.
Nolan Stevenson earned three assists for the Panthers, including on Kelly’s OT winner.
Port Hope joins the Amherstview Jets and Napanee Raiders, which both earned a first-round bye, in the PJHL’s Tod Division semifinals as they await one more team. The Picton Pirates lead the Frankford Huskies 3-1 with Game 5 set for Thursday night.
