More than 50 present and former Northumberland County staffers were honoured for long service at the July county council meeting.

“This is one of the fun things I get to do every six months,” Chief Administrative Officer Jennifer Moore said at the Zoom session.

“I regret once again we are unable to celebrate in person due to our on-going physical distancing requirements, It’s just not the same when I don’t get to shake your hand and say thank you.”

Eighteen employees were honoured for five years of service in Community and Social Services (one employee), Finance (one), the Golden Plough Lodge (four), Northumberland Paramedics (seven) and Transportation, Waste and Facilities (five).

Eleven employees had 10 years of service – eight at the Golden Plough Lodge and one each in Information Technology, Northumberland Paramedics and Transportation, Waste and Facilities.

Four employees had worked 15 years – two at the Golden Plough Lodge and one each in Finance and Community and Social Services.

Seven employees were recognized for 20 years of service in Community and Social Services (one), the Golden Plough Lodge (two), Northumberland Paramedics (three) and Transportation, Waste and Facilities (one).

Three employees had hit the 25-year mark, one in Community and Social Services and two at the Golden Plough Lodge.

There were also eight recent retirees who had put in terms of service ranging from seven to 30 years.

All have shown resilience in adapting to recent changes brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, Warden Bob Crate said, remaining committed to meeting the needs of the community with the same high standards of excellence.

“It’s important to celebrate your hard work and acknowledge your achievements and service of our long-term employees who have made their mark by giving back to their community,” Crate said.

“Each one of you has made an indelible mark on your community, not only by the quality of your work but by your commitment to the strategic pillars on which our corporation stands,” Moore said, applauding their creativity and innovation in meeting recent challenges.

“Thank you for your energy, your passion and your commitment you have brought to your work throughout your time with the county.”
