May 16-22 Will be National Public Works Week

Northumberland County council’s Public Works Standing Committee will recommend county council declare May 16-22 as National Public Works Week at its May meeting.

The proclamation acknowledges the importance of infrastructure, facilities and services to sustainable and resilient communities, public health, quality of life and well-being. It also acknowledges the role of the public-works professionals who provide them – the engineers, managers and employees at all levels of government and the private sector who build and protect transportation, water supply and treatment, waste systems, public buildings, and other vital structures and facilities.

The year 2021 marks the 61st annual National Public Works Week sponsored by the Canadian/American Public Works Association.

The proclamation, to be signed by Warden Bob Crate, will “urge all citizens to join with representatives of the Canadian Public Works Association/American Public Works Association and government agencies in paying tribute to our public works professionals, engineers, managers and employees, and to recognize the substantial contributions they make to protecting our national health, safety and quality of life.”
